ZONE 5 · WEST CAPE NET 7102
The address on
the working disk.
Cool BBS preserved 5:7102/99 in its own 1993 profile. The global nodelists preserve an earlier address for BBS ‘R’ US:5:7102/124. This record keeps both, and keeps their evidence separate.

5:7102/99RECOVERED 1993 · STATUS UNRESOLVEDTHE FIDONET RECORD
Two addresses survive.
A self-authored 1993 profile records 5:7102/99. The independent global nodelists instead place the earlier BBS ‘R’ US at 5:7102/124 in late 1991 and early 1992. Both are retained because they answer different questions: what the working disk said, and what FidoNet publicly distributed.
- Published nodelists
5:7102/124first appears on 15 November 1991, is marked down on 3 January 1992, and is removed on 24 January. The node number was later reassigned to another Cape Town board.- Recovered profile
5:7102/99appears in the c. November 1993 Ami Pro document, but not in either historical database or any of the 53 raw weekly 1993 nodelists checked so far.- RsaNET
- A separate BBS message network. Later local notes preserve Rsa-prefixed conferences, but Cool BBS’s node address and the wider topology remain open questions.
- @CT.SA
- The profile labels this “Internet.” The address is preserved exactly; RsaMAIL is plausible period context, but no address example or Cool BBS configuration proves the connection.
PUBLIC LIST · PRIVATE ARTEFACT
The record, in order.
Nodelists document what FidoNet distributed. The later working document records what Cool BBS described internally. Neither source should be made to say more than it does.

The public record names BBS_R_US, Cape Town, Gaven Cohen, 2400 baud, with CM and XA flags at 5:7102/124.
- Down
The node is marked down
The address remains in the distributed list, but its status changes to Down.
- Removed
The BBS ‘R’ US entry disappears
The next recovered change removes the listing. Node 124 is reassigned to another Cape Town board the following month.
- Recovered
The working disk records node 99
A self-authored Cool BBS operating profile lists 5:7102/99 beside RsaNET and CoolBBS@CT.SA. No matching public nodelist entry has surfaced.
SOURCES + SCOPE
What was checked.
NodeHist and NodelistDB independently reproduce the public5:7102/124 history. NodelistDB returned no Zone 5 system-name match for CoolBBS, and neither database contains5:7102/99.
All 53 raw weekly 1993 nodelists were also searched directly. Absence from those files does not prove the recovered address was meaningless: a placeholder, local or temporary assignment, stale configuration, or unpublished coordinator record remain possible.
