The Cool BBS-originated posts from September through November send as gaven.cohen@cool.alt.za. Their organisation header carries sysop@cool.iaccess.za as a contact. A separate OS/2 post sent through gcohen@iaccess.za asks readers to reply to sysop@cool.alt.za .
The working-disk documents extend that trail backwards. A late-1993 profile labels CoolBBS@CT.SA as “Internet,” and a May 1994 hotline script gives SYSOP@COOL.CSTAT.CO.ZA. The latter sits alongside the independently recovered April sender gaven.cohen@cool.cstat.co.za. Gadi now recalls that the CT and SA labels likely denoted Cape Town and South Africa; that is a hypothesis about their meaning, not an expansion of the address. Period Roblist material names an RsaMAIL service alongside RsaNET, but no recovered address example proves that CoolBBS@CT.SA belonged to it. RECOVERY NOTES
What this archive represents. The two supplied author exports account for 17 posts. Raw copies were matched by Message-ID in the Internet Archive’s usenet-alt and usenet-comp mbox collections. Related group archives were then searched for the exact sender names and addresses, producing 20 further unique messages.
A follow-up search for other Cool BBS users covered 49 mbox corpora: the nine original group files, all 34 preserved za.* files, and all six preserved comp.bbs.* files—about 1.38 million archive records. Exact sender-domain and UUCP-path checks found no confirmed second Cool BBS poster. This remains a bounded recovery, not a claim that 37 is a lifetime total.
Unresolved thread trace. Two surviving replies in a 5 September 1994 alt.bbs.allsysop thread cite <940904141005201@cool.alt.za> in their References: headers. The original article has not been recovered, so its sender and body are unknown; it could be Gaven, another caller, or traffic handled by the same gateway. It is evidence of one additional Cool-hosted article, but it is not counted as a 38th recovered post. View the surviving thread ↗
